Reasons I think being Lupita Nyong’o’s friend would be cool
1. She that cool well spoken calm social justice type girl that you always wanted to add to the friend group
2. Possibility of deep/intense conversation about the various issues and failings of “western society”
3. Maybe one day she’d let me look at/borrow her custom Nairobi blue Prada Oscar dress
During a Republican primary debate in the last presidential election cycle, there was a dispiriting moment in which tea party audience members cheered at the idea that a comatose uninsured American — unable to afford health insurance — would be left to die. That infamous outburst, among others, has prompted GOP bigwigs to try to cut back on primary season debates, hoping to limit appearances that might expose the party’s baser impulses. But that mean-spirited and contemptuous attitude toward the sick is alive and well in the Grand Old Party, as its maniacal (and futile) resistance to Obamacare has made clear. Now, one Republican politician is pushing that callousness to new lows: He wants to bar the uninsured from hospital emergency rooms.
“When I look down at this golden statue, may it remind me and every little child that no matter where you are from, your dreams are valid. ” - Lupita Nyong’o wins Best Actress in a Supporting Role for “12 Years a Slave” at the 86th Annual Academy Awards. She wore a custom Prada ice blue gown that was inspired by champagne bubbles. Little sequins ran along the pleats giving the dress subtly enchanting details. On the red carpet Lupita, a native Kenyan, described her dress stating, “It’s a blue that reminds me of Nairobi, so I wanted to have a little bit of home.” She paired the gorgeous dress with a sparkling headband and mint green nail polish. Her good luck charm was a family totem, a little frog ring that she wore on her pinky finger.Congratulations Lupita!
